Climbing Destinations
Find world-class climbing destinations, from limestone sport climbing and alpine routes to frozen waterfalls and remote mountain adventures.

Climbing has a way of changing how you experience a destination.
Instead of ticking off landmarks or following the usual tourist trails, climbing takes you deeper into a place. It might mean watching sunrise from an alpine hut, spending long afternoons on warm limestone cliffs, hiking into remote mountain valleys, or standing beneath frozen waterfalls in the middle of winter.
No two climbing destinations feel the same.
Some are built around endless sport routes and coastal crags. Others demand mountain skills, route finding, and long approaches. Some are perfect for your first outdoor climbing trip, while others challenge even the most experienced climbers.
This guide brings together some of the climbing destinations I’ve explored through my own adventures, coaching, and work in outdoor performance—helping you find the right climbing destination for your experience, goals, and style of climbing.
How To Choose The Right Climbing Destination?

What experience level are you?
Your climbing experience can have a impact on which destinations feel enjoyable, safe, and rewarding. Some climbing areas offer short approaches, clear route finding, and accessible grades, while others demand stronger technical skills, mountain judgement, and greater self-sufficiency.
Beginner
If you’re new to outdoor climbing, your ideal destination will usually have well-bolted routes, shorter or easier approaches, clear guidebooks, going with a climbing guide or instructor, and a wide range of lower-grade climbs.
As a beginner choosing a destination to start or develop your climbing I would suggest going with a guided trip and group based.
Novice
As your experience grows, you may start looking for more route variety, longer pitches, different rock or ice types, and destinations that challenge your technical skills and decision-making. As you pass being a beginner and become more experiened or skilled the destinations for climbing open up even further, you can challenge yourself with mixed grade routes, varied terrain and maybe progress across different climbing styles.
Advanced
As a more experienced climber you will likely be seeking bigger objectives, technical routes, more remote environments, identifying new projects to send and destinations that demand a higher level of skill, fitness, and self-sufficiency. There are some key destinations that are seen as mecca’s for climbers or must sees. If you fall into this more experienced or advanced climber category with a high skillset, then my top tip would be give yourself time wherever you choose. Doing a day of climbing whilst visiting a new destination can be great as a taster, but having several days or more allows for suitable rest and ability to choose a project or explore more and allow for recovery without feeling so rushed to pack it in. It also allows you to get practice in to develop your skill, process and adapt.
