  1. This is the kind of impulse buy I stan! Lol such a beautiful idea! I wish you the best of luck with it 😊

  2. Perhaps a little bit crazy to buy in another country sight unseen! But it is not unlike something we also did during the pandemic. We bought a second home in another state and then set it up to have a basement apartment we could rent out. We became landlords overnight! I hope you get to see your property soon and enjoy all that it offers!

What an interesting post.  I am not sure I would buy land sight unseen.  Good thing there is a clause that lets you see the property at a future time.  But I can see the draw of land in very rural New Brunswick.  We have often looked at buying in another country.  So your tips were good advice when we start to look again.  Linda (LD Holland)

  4. Congratulations! I love the Canadian Maritimes and New Brunswick no exception. So happy for you! I’ve often thought of buying land in Nova Scotia since my family is originally from there. It would be great to have a place to go that’s connected to our old homestead. You’ve brought up some points I wouldn’t have thought of, like scammers and creative financing. I’m definitely all-the-wiser after reading this.

  5. Congratulations Nicole and welcome to Canada, I think you’ll like it here! I’ve driven through NB on my way to NS and PEI and it’s stunning. Nothing but forests, as you said, big rocks and lakes. Brush up on your French, as close to the PQ border a lot of NB speak French too.

  6. How exciting! And what an adventure to buy land without seeing it! Good, that you used all available channels to check the property!

  7. Congratulations on your new property! The area looks beautiful and look at that Pollet River that you can reach within 5 minutes of walking. So lucky! I wonder if buying a land out of the country is a thing for people from the UK because the property my friend bought in Colorado was owned by a couple from the U.K.

It’s a good thing you have a documentary on this subject. This is quite beneficial for those who desire to own land in Canada. There are numerous risks involved with purchasing a house in another state, and yet you still go through the process. What a truly brave lady! Congratulations! I am overjoyed for you!

  9. This was an unusual read. While I could refer to the food and boardgame bits – I did mailorder cloths, however, covid did not inspire me to buy land. But I must say, having seen the picture of the Bay of Fundy, I totally get you. So, are we all invited or what?! Oh, and: Kudos, so happy for you!

Wow, that was very brave and adventurous! I am glad all is going well from now on, and looking forward to see your future home in that greenery!

  11. I loved your impulse purchase story! You got what you wanted. I am impulsive only to the extent of buying a laptop or a car, never a house or land. I can see why you chose New Zealand or Canada for your future home – so pristine, scenic and unpolluted away from the cities. Thanks for all the tips and I wish you all the best in your new future home! 🙂

  12. Wow! This is huge & good for you. I was seriously considering buying a property in Antigua a couple of years ago. I fell in love with a place & put in an offer but (I think now fortunately) didn’t get it. In hindsight I don’t think it was the right thing for me. However the thought process of buying somewhere overseas has been triggered & lockdown has only strengthened that. I read this with great interest. Very excited for you & look forward to your next post on it!

  13. Sounds like quite the adventure! I look forward to hearing how it all turns out!

  14. And this is why you shouldn’t drunk shop especially during a pandemic. Joking aside, this looks like a wonderful purchase. I clicked through to the update and it looks lovely. Good luck with your future plans.

  15. Smart decision! The future will show you! Enjoy and have fun in New Brunswick, it’s stunning

  16. My dream !! Being a property developer/ builder you have just done my dream. I clumsy think of anything better then being able to buy land that you have never seen ina beautiful country with the intentions of upping sticks and building your own home. Being from the uk I’ve never heard of Brunswick but can I see u will live your best years at this very location. Good luck and only slightly jealous.

  17. Ahhhh how exciting! Congratulations! I can only imagine the memories you are going to make out there! It looks like a little slice of heaven!

What an amazing story. I can be very impulsive and once bought an Alfa Romeo on impulse, but never a piece of land. It is interesting to read about the background checks (and your stalking) that you undertook to protect yourself. I wish you every success with it and look forward to reading more about it when you get over to see it.

Those impulse purchases are the best. 13 years ago we went on holiday to Turkey, and ended up buying a house. Sometimes you just have to throw caution the the wind and see what happens. It’ll be fun to document your visit and impression of your impulse buy .. that’ll be a good blog post.

  20. This is awesome! And certainly takes a courageous spirit! lol I’d love to do something like this. May need to discuss with my beau about attempting something similar. 🙂 Good for you!
